Candle Powered Emergency Space Heater

OK, OK! I’m sorry! I missed the October update. But I have two nifty things to show you this month.
Terra cotta pot emergency heater.
First is something I’ve seen gaining steam in the “prepper” world. The second will be a surprise coming before the end of November.

Carved Pumpkin Topiary

For about the last week I’ve been able to feel a little bit of Autumn’s nip in the air, now for some reason I dislike cold weather, but I LOVE fall. I guess something about nature ‘going to sleep’ in preparation for Spring’s renewal speaks to me. For that reason I tend to make a good many Autumn and Halloween crafts.

Platform Wedge Flip-Flops

Platform Flip-Flops

Some months back I found another craft site much like Pinterest, called Craftgawker. It is like Pinterest in that many craft posts are collected from craft blogs (or food blogs, or design blogs) from around the Internet and you can save them for later. The first day I looked at it I found a picture of platform flip flops. Being a southern girl, I know that flip-flops are essential during summer, so I made a mental note. I noticed her old dishes going unused and since the set was incomplete I didn’t want to take it to Goodwill. As I may have stated before, I am a bit of a Pinterest addict. I had seen things on Pinterest involving upcycling tea cups including a cake stand, if memory serves me correctly. I figured it was time to rescue the dishes instead of letting them “rot away”.

Mason Jar Soap Dispenser

Mason Jar Soap Dispenser

I don’t really get it. Mason Jars are SO HOT right now. It’s ridiculous. I grew up using spare mason jars for this, that and the other thing. Drinking out of, bug jars, mixing sauces, etc. It’s like the rest of the country has finally figured out what southerners have known all along. Mason jars come in handy!
Now, everyone who knows me knows that I am not exactly trend forward, but I had a mason jar with a lid that was starting to corrode slightly so I didn’t want to use it for food anymore (update: this was a bad idea, even after painting the rust kept getting worse over a few months) and a soap dispenser that was leaving rust rings on my counter. I figured I would give this thing a shot. Continue reading
